Counseling helps with psychological and emotional issues by examining past and current experiences for healing. It involves a licensed mental health professional guiding clients. Coaching is focused on achieving goals and personal or professional growth. Coaching helps clients set objectives, make plans, and create strategies for success. While both support personal growth, they have different methods and goals.
-
Determining whether a client needs counseling or coaching begins with an initial assessment of their needs and goals. We ask specific questions to understand their current challenges and aspirations. Clients seeking to address mental health issues or past trauma typically benefit more from counseling, which focuses on healing and processing emotions. Conversely, individuals aiming to achieve specific personal or professional goals often find coaching to be more suitable.
Considering the client's readiness for change; those who are feeling overwhelmed may require the therapeutic support that counseling provides. In contrast, clients who are motivated and looking for actionable strategies may thrive in a coaching environment. Additionally, evaluating the client’s history with therapy and coaching, which can inform the best approach. Ultimately, the goal is to guide them towards the most effective path for their individual circumstances.

On average, our clients complete therapy after 5 months of weekly therapy with us. Yes, that means that anxiety, depression, grief, stress, relationships issues or symptoms (and other goals have decreased so much that they are ready to graduate from therapy or coaching!
Of course, everyone is different and there are many factors that contribute to how long coaching and therapy takes. Factors like complexity of history and current stressors play a role in in the length of therapy.
-
We have found that meeting weekly improve clients’ progress toward their goals. For that reason, we meet with clients weekly. We will establish a set to time to meet each week and that will be our reoccurring weekly appointment. Doing healing work at the level that will sustain long-term change takes time. It’s a commitment. Clients that invest in the time get better faster and with less relapse into old patterns.
-
Yes, especially in the beginning. We will suggest things for you do to at home that will support the work we do in our therapy sessions. We have found that clients make significantly faster progress when they do the homework. Much of the homework is to support the integration of the deep work we do in session.
-
Counseling-Generally speaking, during the first 1-3 sessions, we will do a thorough history and establish specific goals for your therapy. The next 3-4 sessions, we will develop a tool kit for dealing with the current stressors that brought you to counseling. In the last part of therapy, we will do the deep diving work to help heal the roots of problems that brought you to counseling.
Coaching-You can expect to experience a supportive and respectful environment where we can thoroughly focus on your individual goals and the various challenges you may be facing. We will engage in open and honest conversations, take the time to explore your thoughts and feelings in depth, and work together to identify effective strategies that can address your specific needs. You can expect to receive thoughtful guidance, constructive feedback, and a collaborative approach that is carefully tailored to your unique situation and circumstances. While progress may vary from one session to the next, our shared aim is to foster meaningful personal growth and resilience throughout the journey.
-
Our clients feel less anxious, more in control of their thoughts and emotions, and less reactive in their relationships. Overall, they feel less triggered and are able to respond to situations in life, rather than be hijacked by old reactions. At the end of therapy, they feel more peace and calm and aren’t limited by old worn out ways of viewing themselves and the world. They experience a new level of freedom.
Relationship coaching can lead to improved communication, deeper emotional connections, and enhanced conflict resolution skills. Participants often experience increased understanding of each other’s perspectives, greater intimacy, and a stronger foundation for their partnership. Ultimately, individuals and couples may find renewed commitment and harmony in their relationship, fostering lasting change and satisfaction.
Individuals typically find better ways to engage in healthy dating, getting out of unhealthy relationships and grow into their own authenticity in life.

SOME QUESTIONS TO ASK:
Q: Will you reimburse for mental health service providers that are out of network?
Q: Do I have a deductible to meet before you will reimburse?
Q. Have I met the reimbursement rate?
Q. What is the reimbursement rate?
Q: How do I submit for reimbursement?
Once you verify your benefits, you will still be responsible for paying out of pocket for each appointment. Once a month we will email you a superbill (insurance lingo for receipt) which you can then submit to your insurance company for reimbursement.
Some insurance companies have an online portal where you can upload a photo of your superbill and it will be processed relatively quickly, usually within a few days; alternatively you can mail it in.
This monthly paperwork process should take you about 5 minutes.
